The Three Offices

The church has three types of offices.  The offices are the minister, the elder, and the deacon.

The minister preaches the word and teaches. He administers the sacraments, and visits those in need to assist and to encourage them.

The elders make certain that the preaching is sound, the sacraments are properly administered, and that families and individuals conduct themselves properly in doctrine and in life according to the gospel.

The minister and the elders together form the Consistory, which ensures that all things in the church are conducted decently and in good order. The Consistry is the highest ruling authority under Christ in the church.

The deacons see to it that the love of Christ is displayed so that no one lives uncomforted under the pressure of sickness, loneliness, and poverty.

Together, the minister, elders and deacons form the council of the church (Consistory with the Deacons), which provides direction and supervision for the church's affairs. This council also makes sure that accurate financial records are kept and that reports are regularly made to the congregation. Most of the administrative work is delegated to committees so that the Council can devote themselves to the spiritual care of the congregation.
